Toxic Foods

There are foods that are commonly in our homes that could prove to be toxic to your pet.

I have included the most common but there may be some I have missed.

Chocolate – the higher the cocoa content the higher the risk.

Gum or candies solely or largely sweetened with xylitol. Sudden drop in blood sugar, resulting in depression, loss of coordination and seizures. These signs can develop quite rapidly, so it is important that pet owners seek veterinary treatment immediately.  According to experts at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, some data also appears to point to a possible link between xylitol ingestions and the development of liver failure in dogs.

Caffeine – coffee and tea

The leaves from – rhubarb, tomato, potato

The  pits from many fruits as well as apple seeds

Raisins and grapes

Macadamia Nuts - as well as some other nuts

Green potato skins

Broccoli if fed too much
