Rescue

I became interested in helping dogs many years ago and that interest  lead me to "rescue" groups.

I believe in rescue and encourage everyone to adopt a rescue dog. Additionally if you have (or know someone who has) a purebred dog that you are no longer able to provide a home for PLEASE contact an appropriate rescue group. You might be saving the life of a wonderful dog.

Responsible rescue groups are dedicated to the dogs and open their hearts and homes to dogs who have found themselves homeless or who's original "parents" are unable to continue providing homes for them.

Without these rescue groups many dogs would die alone and afraid in shelters.  Because of rescue groups these dogs are taken into loving foster homes to be re-homed (and possibly rehabilitated) with a commitment to forever homes.

Because rescue dogs are generally living in foster homes with families there are advantages to adopting a rescue dog.  These advantages would include the foster parent' knowledge of the individual dog's energy level and personality.  The foster parent is aware of any bad habits the dog might have and addresses them. Rescue dogs have already been spayed or neutered, they are up to date on all vet care, there is no potty training needed, and some obedience training has already been done.  Rescue group volunteers are also available to their adopters if there are questions, concerns or problems after the adoption.  The volunteers are for the most part very knowledgeable about dogs in general and in particular the breed they are work with.

Rescue groups carefully screen applicants to ensure their understanding of the breed and their ability to provide a safe and permanent home.

You can find a wealth of information on breed rescue through:                                          www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm?SEARCH_BUTTON.X=18\&SEARCH_BUTTON.Y=13.

Nearly every breed is represented and well organized, well run, dedicated, committed and loving rescue groups are ready to help match you to the perfect dog.
